More playtime (Pentacon Six TL)
I’ve often heard of the Zeiss lenses from Jena, that there are some good bargains out there, but I’ve never really heard the same for the bodies to put them on.
I like medium format, but for me, it is a square. Some of my favorite cameras to work with are Rolleis. But now and then I would like a wide-angle, more often a wide-angle than a tele, but if I had the possibility, I’d pick up a short tele as well.
I was warned off from the Pentacons. Someone simply offered me one if I would pay the postage, so I did.
It isn’t easy getting good shots from them. It takes a while to learn a body, but these particular shutter speeds seem to be slow, very slow. 1/125 doesn’t work at all. It opens and never closes until you wind forward to the next frame.
A couple of samples from my first tries, all with a 80/2.8 Biometar. They are all from a little vacation Ewa and took. Well, I worked, she came along to Denmark since she was off. In the evenings we took mini-trips.
The first is from the ferry crossing between Helsingborg and Helsingør (Sweden and Denmark).

Looking east:

This one was taken at a rest stop we made at Frasse’s, just south of Halmstad:

The last one is from north eastern Fyn (Danish island west of the island Copenhagen is on):

Nice shots, I have the same problem with my Pentacon but only at 1/250 🙂

Carol, just today I got another body, one I paid for, from Cupog in Slovakia. A body and a 50mm Flektogon. It was the wide-angle that got me looking in this direction.
The body seems to be in very good shape and all the shutter speeds seem to be right on. We’ll see …
Thanks!

50 mm is a very good lens, I love it like 180 2,8. Some times ago I sell my perfect pentacon with 80mm because I planned buying a kiev 88 cm (with pentacon mount) but it was too expensive and I turn for an Hasselblad body with 80 and 150, but hassy 50s are too expensive and now I re-bought a pentacon+80 for few euro.
Good luck with your new pentacon!
Ciao from Italy,
Carlo.

I’ve been wondering if I should go with the 180 or the 120 for a slightly longer lens. Most people have only good things to say about the 180, but I haven’t heard much at all about the 120.
And greetings from Scandinavia!

The 120 seems to be not good, but I never test it. Someones says tath 120 is good for macro with tube or bellows. The 180 is very heavy!

Carlo, I just carried a body, a 50 and a 80 on my walk to work (about 3km). I’m not so sure more weight would matter. It was pretty heavy and cumbersome the way it was!
Thanks! I’ll let you know how I go. Cupog didn’t have a 180 in stock at the moment, so I can wait.
